This is what one of our pupils attending the event had to say about their experience:
The Green Power racing was really fun, you got to learn a lot about karts and the different racing corners how it impacts time. As someone who wants to work in F1 as a racing engineer its helped me open my eyes more into the engineering side and overall it was a really fun day as you had to learn tactics and communication skills while with friends. The club working towards it was really interactive and everyone got a go at something like me and my friends worked on the design side while the other built the kart. Overall its a brilliant club and very mind altering.
In year 10 at Portchester community school we offer the exciting opportunity to take part in the STEAM Greenpower event. In this challenge we gather together a group of pupils that build and design the yearly entry to the Greenpower competition held at Goodwood racing track. We embark upon the main electrical and mechanical engineering tasks initially to personalise the car to fit the design brief created by the current team. We then begin time trials and working on the efficiency of the car (weather permitting) here at school.
2022 was our first event but it was hugely successful with a great day had by all and some great time trials recorded. If you would like to see further event information this can be accessed by the link below.
The Green Power project certainly gives pupils who are involved to have a real life opportunity to discover how Science skills such as enquiry, problem solving, forces and electricity can be applied to this project. Really importantly they will all be able to see their success when the car will be taken to Goodwood Motor circuit and competed against other education establishment for efficient design and construction.
