Sports Award Evening

Sports Awards Evening 2016

The 7th annual Sports Award Evening took place on Wednesday 5th October, celebrating another year of fantastic sporting achievements at Portchester Community School.  Attended by over 170 students, all of whom had regularly attended an extra curricular club throughout the year, various awards were given out to students to recognise sporting successes and personal triumphs.

The school was delighted to welcome Paralympian Micky Yule to the evening to share his inspirational life story and sporting experiences. As a power lifter, Micky has just returned from Rio where he represented Great Britain in the 80kg competition, finishing in 6th place.  Micky is also the current UK champion, European champion and Invictus Games Gold medalist.

After listening intently to his story our students were then treated to a truly magnificent powerlifting competition involving Micky, Mr Shaul and Harrison Utton-Smith (Year 10 student).   No prizes were given for predicting the eventual winner!

Following the powerlifting competition the presentation of awards began, with all winners receiving their trophy from Micky Yule. Please see the table below for a comprehensive list of this years winners.

A stunning performance from Fareham School of Gymnastics rounded off the evening, with a trampette routine delighting the watching audience.

A huge thank you to Micky Yule and Fareham School of Gymnastics for attending the evening. Congratulations to all our nominees, runners up and winners.
