Futsal Regional Tournament

Regional Futsal Tournament Report

On Thursday 9th February members of our Year 11 football team represented the school, and

Portchester Students at Futsal Tournament

Portsmouth Football Club, at the Regional Futsal Finals in Swindon.

Having participated in a local competition, organised by Pompey in the Community in November, the team qualified for the finals after winning all of their seven matches.

Futsal is an indoor version of football that uses a smaller, heavier football and has slightly different rules for restarting play. It is very popular in Spain and Brazil and is often played instead of the 11 a side game.

Arriving in Swindon for an early start the team began the tournament by playing a side representing Southampton FC. Against our local rivals the team produced a convincing performance to run out as 9 – 2 winners.  In the team’s second match they took on Swindon Town and were unfortunate to lose in a close encounter.  Another close match saw the team narrowly lose to Newport County before a thrilling 5 – 5 draw with Exeter City ended the day’s action.

It was a very well organised event that our students thoroughly enjoyed. Many had the opportunity

to represent Portsmouth FC for the first time and were able to work alongside Pompey in the Community coach Mark Smith.
