Portchester Community School was the first secondary school in the UK to be designated as a Level 2 Rights Respecting School by UNICEF. The school continues to pride itself on its caring ethos and is widely recognised for its Rights, Respect and Responsibility (RR&R) work.

Our community engagement work has been a powerful vehicle for promoting positive relationships, raising aspirations and developing cultural awareness. Many students have had exceptional opportunities to travel and engage in new and exciting experiences both in the UK and abroad.

Our school was the first UK school to be invited to and participate in the International Schools Summit in Seattle, USA. This life changing experience was as a result of the work of the Model United Nations group that was established at the school in 2014.  In September 2016, our second set of ambassadors visited The Charles Wright Academy in Seattle to explore in greater depth the Human Rights Movements and establish the plans for a return visit in 2017.

Our Ofsted Inspection of January 2015 highlighted several key features about the school. They were:

  • Ably assisted by the Senior Leadership Team, the Headteacher has provided dynamic and incisive leadership since his appointment.
  • Leaders at all levels have high aspirations and a relentless focus on improving students’ achievement.
  • Governors are making a good contribution to the leadership of the school.
  • Teachers have high expectations of students and enjoy positive and supportive relationships.
  • Students’ conduct around the school is exemplary.
  • Behaviour around the school is calm and considerate.

Our talented staff are unstinting in providing a wealth of opportunities for students. They give generously of their time and energy both in and out of term time. Students quickly learn that hard-work and investment in learning provides great pleasure and reaps dividends in the future.

If you wish to find out more about the educational opportunities on offer at Portchester Community School, please do get in touch with the school to make an appointment for a visit.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Mr Richard Carlyle
